Oct. 21 Photos from Niji

This first day was rather difficult for me. I was using a camera unfamiliar to me. Everything was so dark at the start of the day. But I eventually found my way. For learning and trying new things, this was a very successful day for me.

Exhibit Recommendation from Janet

Today, I visited the exhibit "Re-viewing Documentary: The Photographic Life of Louise Rosskam," which is at the Katzen Arts Center at American University through December 14, 2011. While not landscape photography, this is a marvelous show of documentary photos taken by Louise Rosskam and her husband, mostly in the 1940s and 1950s. The most recent (and only color) photographs are of southwest Washington, DC, before the neighborhoods there were razed to make way for the waterfront development. Well worth a visit!

October 21 - Near Angler's Inn

These photos include the great blue heron that posed for us. I was using a Canon SX40HS, which has a zoom lens. I particularly like the details on the feathers.

Oct.27 post from Heesook Kim

I took this picture at Hanla Mountain in Korea with canon 400D.
During I claimed the mountain, the sun shined very short moment.

Introductory Post by Janet

Hello All, I'm sorry to have missed the first class and I look forward to meeting everyone on Friday's field trip. I am a returning student in Potomac Landscapes, and in the past have indulged my love for "little landscapes" -- close-ups and macro shots of details in the landscape. This session, I want to concentrate on more traditional, larger-scale landscapes, as well as improving image quality, both in technique and composition. I'll be shooting with my father-in-law's vintage Xpan 100 film camera, which should be lots of fun. Here's a shot from a summer backpacking trip in Alaska (taken with a modern SLR); this was shot from my tent in the Peters Hills, looking toward Mt. McKinley, as a 14-hour storm finally started to lift.

Blackberry Farm at Sunrise

This photo is hand-held on the deck of the Inn at Blackberry Farm in the Smokies of Tennessee. The sun was right and the morning haze was just beginnig to fade away for the day. The photo has been sharpened in post processing, but I'll take credit for a relatively steady hand.
