Roosevelt Island - Rebecca

The morning was challenging with the wind but the light was beautiful. I tried to keep the ISO at 200 or under as my camera doesn't do well with high ISOs.

The trees look very orange on the blog.

  I managed to get one close-up I like and that is in focus.

What a challenge to find still moments! I did not really think about wind and sharpness until this class...now see why people say a good day to shoot or they are waiting for just the moment.

Roosevelt Island--Nick

After the bridge to the island, I ended up spending some time at the north end of the island, where there were sight lines to the west towards Key Bridge and to the north toward Georgetown.  I liked the bridge in the morning light, but never quite captured what I was looking for.  I was a little impatient in the cold.  And as long as I brought the telephoto, I took a couple (well, actually, a lot) of bird pictures, but not many of them were interesting. 

Teddy Roosevelt Island

It surely was cold this morning but just beautiful with the gorgeous sunshine. The memorial to Teddy is quite wonderful; he would have liked it I think.

I attached four images, not terrific, but nice. Jane showed me the lovely area below the bridge and in one image you can see the Lincoln Memorial poking through. The white tree, beech I think, really stuck out among the others with brown trunks and its color was lovely still. Soon all will be brown and we will be hoping for spring. Leslie

River Bend -- Nick

Better late than never....  Here are some images from River Bend Park.  Actually the first image is one I made a couple of days later in my back yard.  I thought it recalled the falls from our first outing.

In some cases I included two or three or four different compositions of the same scene--I would appreciate any thoughts about what appeals to you and what doesn't (and why).

I haven't entirely figured out how to position the pictures and add text where i want it in the blog....

Somehow I always felt constrained to maintain the original 3:2 aspect ratio--probably stems from a college photography class where we were encouraged to frame the image as we wanted it, and we had to print the full frame.  So I'm experimenting with letting go of that constraint.  But not always.

The pleasant sun star is just a feature of this lens, so I felt compelled to exploit it occasionally, even if it is cliche'.

I liked the animal-like forms

I like this version best, but is the leaf distracting to you?

I think i like the one above the best, but does chopping off the trunk on the left add tension, or just lead you out of the frame?  Likewise with leaves on the right?
