

Different angles.
One picture to me is more interesting than the other. Picture 1 (I hope I've loaded these correctly) is somewhat dull and flat and the "trail" line leads off the left frame into nowhere. Picture 2 - shot from a lower angle - makes the rocks point upwards, compresses the greenery, and the "trail" line leads to the horizon inviting the traveller to walk a little; it has the very good luck of having a much more interesting sky. (Both shot with a wide angle, 20mm.)

And yet a case could be made that the other is moodier, more intimate, the tree above the horizon stands out more as a significant element, and the wisp of blue in the sky is quite an intriqueing line and shape.
